Dr. rer. nat. Eberhard Jochims Nach
dem Abitur am neusprachlichen Zweig des Nordsee-Gymnasiums in
Büsum begann Eberhard Jochims sein Studium der Naturwissenschaften
mit den Hauptfächern Botanik, Zoo(physio)logie, organischer wie
anorganischer Chemie und den Nebenfächern Physik und Geographie in
Hamburg, wohin er nach einigen Studiensemestern in Tübingen auch
wieder zurückkehrte. Dort legte er sowohl das Philosophicum wie
das Staatsexamen und einige Jahre später auch die
Promotionsprüfung ab. Während der Promotionszeit arbeitete er
sowohl als Assistent am Institut für Hydrobiologie und
Fischereiwissenschaft in Hamburg wie auch als Lehrer für Biologie
und Chemie an einem Privatgymnasium. Nach einer dreijährigen
Anstellung als Biologe in Bielefeld, wechselte er zu Boehringer
Mannheim, wo er seine Tätigkeit als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter
im Bereich Therapeutica begann. (weitere Einzelheiten siehe weiter

having passed the final examination at the secondary school the
“Nordsee-Gymnasium” in Büsum Eberhard Jochims started
to study natural sciences at the University of Hamburg. Main subjects
being botany, zoo(physio)logy, organic and inorganic chemistry having
as subsidiary subjects physics and geography. After having changed to
the University of Tübingen for several terms he returned to
Hamburg where he passed his examinations in philosophy and pedagogics.
There he also passed his States examination and some years later he
also there got his doctor’s degree. While studying for the
doctorate he worked as assistant at the institute for hydrobiology
& fishery sciences and at the same time as teacher at a pivate
secondary school teaching the subjects biology and chemistry. After
having worked for three years as biologist in Bielefeld he moved to
Mannheim where he started his career as regional manager in the
division “Therapeutics” of Boehringer Mannheim. (Further

Professional Profile
Dr. Eberhard Jochims, born
in Kiel, Germany, graduated with a doctorate in Natural
Sciences (Botany, Zoology and Organic Chemistry) from the University of
Hamburg.
1975 he joined Boehringer Mannheim
as Regional Marketing Manager Therapeutics and in this function he finally
was responsible for all marketing and sales activities including training of
local field forces, organisation of symposia, clinical studies and scientific
information in Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa. 1986 he took over the
position of a Marketing Manager Therapeutics in Boehringer Mannheim (Far
East) Ltd. being responsible for the build up and development of the
pharmaceutical business in whole South East Asia which grew during this time
by more than 30%. While working in Asia he also acquired special knowledge in
the field of malaria and antimalarials. During periods of absence of the GM
he also was appointed as Acting General Manager of BM(F.E.).
After his return to BM in
Germany he joined the division Biochemicals and for two years carried out
market research studies to evaluate new business areas before he became head
of the new product line ”Bioanalytics” which was to be built up with
enzymatic, immunological and microbiological tests for the food and
environmental analysis. End of 1992 he took over the function ”International
Business Co-ordination Biochemicals” reporting directly to the head of
division. During this time he advised the BM Biochemicals country organisations
in all business aspects and headed the Bioreagents Business Team whose
responsibility it was to develop the business and to streamline all marketing
activities world-wide.
1996 Dr. Jochims changed to BM Group Development with the main task to develop non core business areas of BM into profitable self depending business units which also included the preparation of respective business plans and financial projections.
During his 23 years with
Boehringer Mannheim he nearly exclusively worked as executive in
international functions not only in the headquarters but also as expatriate
in South East Asia which gave him a deep understanding of different people
and cultures.
Autumn 1998 he left the
company to take up a new challenge as independent consultant to the Life
Science Industry. Because of his broad background in natural sciences he now
is actively working on especially market and internet research projects in
the areas of pharmaceutical, diagnostic, biochemical, biological and
environmental businesses.
